A Brief History
In the Spring of 1987, three church secretaries in New Brunswick met for lunch. It was such a welcome time of sharing that they were inspired to invite all church secretaries to get together for a longer period of time to share ideas, concerns and resources.
The first workshop was held at Cassidy Lake near Norton, NB in May 1988 with the Rev. Heber Kean as facilitator and the secretaries as resource persons.
The first workshop was so successful that a second one was soon planned in 1990 at A.C.T.C. in Tatamagouche. We welcomed two church secretaries from Halifax (one Anglican and one Baptist) who have been attending ever since. Heber Kean brought along several associates from Maritime Conference who supplied us with a great deal of much needed information.
At this workshop the “Maritime Church Administrators Association” formed under the umbrella of the Communications Division of Maritime Conference. An executive was elected representing the three Maritime Provinces.
